Sing Unto the Lord
Psalm 95:1-2, ” O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.”
As Christians, we are commanded to sing and make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Though singing may be a “joyful noise” to you and certainly to God, it might possibly be just noise to others within ear range! Everyone should sing joyfully and to their best ability in every congregational song, which is definitely,“…unto the Lord”.
However, if you are going to sing “unto the LORD” before others, such as a solo, you should consider whether or not it will be a joyful sound to the hearers. If you have not made an attempt at improving or developing the singing voice, you should consider your sound.
Notice the verse said, “make a joyful noise”.
That indicates the sound requires effort and development. There are very few natural born prodigies when it comes to singing. If you have some doubt concerning the quality of your singing voice, you might consider an honest evaluation from someone other than your mother. For instance, every baby skunk smells like a gardenia to its mother!
